Becoming an Agent

One of the most frequent questions we are asked is, why would anyone want to be a real estate agent in this market?

Our answer: There is opportunity in every market! You may not sell real estate the same way today as an agent did four years ago, but for someone willing to work hard, there is ample opportunity.  If you are interested in real estate, do not let this market hold you back.  We speak from experience and success.  Our brokerage was formed as the market imploded and we have continued to prosper and grow each year.

The next question we often are asked is what do I need to do to become a real estate agent?  You need a state issued real estate license.  Once licensed, you work with a real estate brokerage, like Freedom First Properties.  Here are the basic licensing requirements for the state of California and more details and the forms listed below can be found at the Department of Real Estate's ("DRE") Web Site @ http://www.dre.ca.gov/:

1.  Age:  You must be at least 18 or older.

2. Resident:  You must provide proof of legal presence in the United States (passport, birth certificate) and fill out a form entitled State Public Benefits Statement (Form RE205)

3.  Honesty:  You must be honest and truthful.  Failure to disclose any criminal violations or disciplinary actions may in your application may result in the State denying your application.

4. Fingerprinting:  You must have your fingerprints taken and submitted by a qualified Livescan provider. Use form RE237 from the DRE's website.

4. Education:  You must complete the following classes:

Real Estate Principles + Real Estate Practices + One Approved Elective Course.

Here are the steps:  Complete the combination application/license (Form RE 435) and State Public Benefit Statement (Form RE 205), pay the applicable fee, provide proof of completed classes (see above) and submit all to the DRE.   The DRE will then send you an Examination Schedule Notice with the date, time & location of your test.  In the interim, submit your fingerprints (Form RE 237).   Then take & pass your test and you're ready to go!

Where can I take the required classes?   There are many state approved provides. Some of the more popular real estate programs are Allied, Kaplan and First Tuesday.

Can I work for you?  We are always willing to take on both experienced and new agents who are committed to ethical real estate practices and outstanding customer service. For more detailed information about working with Freedom First Properties,  go to http://www.freedomfirstproperties.com/jobs   If you think you would fit well in our company, please give us a call for a confidential interview.
