The Federal government has extended and expanded the up to a $8,000 federal tax credit for first time home buyers that purchase a home between January 1, 2009 and now June 30, 2010 (must be under contract no later than April 30, 2010). The credit is equal to 10% of the purchase price, not to exceed a total credit of $8,000. Under the program, the buyers must:

- Meet income limits: Under the new increased income limits, the credit is available in full for single filers with income up to $125K for joint filers with income up to $225K.
